Committee Update
The committee (MSCC) has been quite active, as we head closer to a referendum on converting the former Middle School to a Town Office complex. Since receiving approval to expend Phase II Design funding, we have been meeting with the architects to develop plans which will be used to solicit actual bids (instead of using conceptual plans and estimated project costs to go to referendum) and continue to modify those plans to reduce potential costs.
The Committee has approved final floor plans for the proposed project that can be viewed on our website's documentation page. We are also working on anticipated operating costs of the proposed project. This analysis of current vs. anticipated operating costs will be displayed at all of our public hearings as part of our overall presentation.
The Committee approved moving forward with a geothermal HVAC option. This decision was based on the recommendation from the Facilities Subcommittee after their review of an energy modeling analysis that was performed by our architects on three different HVAC options. Additional design funding was approved to move forward with this option. If you are interested in learning more about the geothermal plan or the analysis that was done, please contact us.
A total of nine firms submitted proposals for Construction Manager services. The committee will be conducting interviews in early August and will make a recommendation to the Board of Selectmen shortly afterwards. This will move us forward with our bid specifications and allow us to look at more detailed estimated costs.
Each of our subcommittees has been working hard on a variety of projects:
- Grant and Legal Subcommittee has applied for a $500,000 STEAP grant through the State of Connecticut to be applied to the construction of the Food Bank, Youth & Family Services, Recreation, and Public Safety areas.
- Facilities Subcommittee has reviewed HVAC options and recommended pursuing a geothermal option. They are currently working closely with our architects to finalize construction bid documents.
Public Relations Subcommittee will be working on plans for numerous informational meetings once bids for this project have been reviewed.
We will continue to work hard on your behalf to bring forward a project that is fiscally responsible and meets the needs of the people who live and work in our town.
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month in the Town Office Annex. All agendas and minutes are posted on this site and at the Town Hall. Public input is always welcomed. This is YOUR project. We want to hear what you think about it. Please let us know.
Please feel free to contact me or any member of the committee with any questions, comments or concerns.
